How to read Scrap Mechanic 1.0 recipes correctly
A recipe is a production record with a station, inputs, output, batch size, and sometimes a time or schematic gate. Reading those fields together is more reliable than copying a material list from an older guide.
One output can have several valid acquisition methods
The recipe browser keeps Craftbot production, specialized stations, trades, and schematic-gated methods as separate rows. Two rows with the same output are alternatives only when you can actually access both stations and meet their progression requirements.
Search by an ingredient to answer “what can I make with this?” Search by an output to answer “how do I obtain this?” Then filter by station to remove methods that are unavailable in your current base or route.
Calculate whole batches, not fractional crafts
Game recipes produce a fixed output per run. Required batches are the requested quantity divided by the recipe output, rounded up. If a method produces 4 units and the build needs 9, it requires 3 batches and produces 12; the 3 extra units are surplus, not a smaller third recipe.
Every ingredient quantity is multiplied by the batch count. This is why manually multiplying only the output target can undercount inputs, especially when an intermediate product also has a multi-unit output.
Station speed, slots, and schematic flags change the plan
The current snapshot contains 16 validated crafter profiles across 8 timed stations. Craftbot and Sawtable profiles can process parallel slots under the released rule; other crafters use their published active-slot behavior. A displayed duration is processing time, not a promise about travel, loading, fuel, power, or collection downtime.
A schematic label means the current recipe explicitly requires that unlock. It does not mean every schematic has the same odds or that possessing ingredients bypasses progression. Trade outputs also remain trade methods rather than being rewritten as ordinary crafting.
When the recipe list is enough—and when to use the planner
Use this page for method discovery and side-by-side comparison. It is usually enough for a single batch or for checking whether an item consumes a resource. Move to the planner when a target needs several layers of craftable ingredients, when multiple goals share materials, or when you want to subtract inventory you already own.
The current catalog contains 736 validated methods. Keeping discovery here and quantity expansion in the planner makes both answers auditable: the chosen method stays visible instead of disappearing inside a total.
